FEE INCREASE FOR IMMIGRATION BENEFITS

FEE INCREASE FOR IMMIGRATION BENEFITS: USCIS Proposes to Adjust Fees to Meet Operational Needs.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Agency that oversees the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) have proposed a new Fee Schedule. The proposed Fee Schedule was placed on the Federal Register and is now open for public commentary.

The proposed Fee Schedule could see fees for immigration benefits increasing in some cases as much as 83%. Unlike most government agencies, the USCIS’s entire budget is based on fees it collects. While the Fee Schedule is only a proposal, more than likely it will be finalized.

We are encouraging everyone who is thinking about filing for any type of immigration benefit to do so as soon as possible, taking advantage of the current fees.

The DHS/USCIS last adjusted its Fee Schedule in December of 2016.

The deadline for public comments on the current proposal is December 16, 2019.
